Federation of Wine Harvest Festival Associations of Jumilla
The Federation of Wine Harvest Festival Associations of Jumilla is the body responsible for organising and overseeing all the events of the Jumilla Wine Harvest Festival, as well as other cultural activities related to vineyards and wine. Its main objective is the promotion and dissemination of Jumilla wine culture.
The Federation is made up of 24 associations (peñas), which work throughout the year on the design and preparation of their floats and on the activities included in the Wine Harvest Festival.
The Festival
The Jumilla Wine Harvest Festival offers a wide, varied and extensive programme of events throughout the year, in which the main celebrations take place in mid-August.
Among these events are the appointment of the Farmer of the Year at the majestic Jumilla Castle, the official opening address (Pregón), the Chatico Extreme Race, a fun and unique obstacle race inspired by the world of wine, the appointment of the Senior and Junior Grape Harvesters and the Senior Winemaker, the inauguration of the Wine Fountain, the Offering of Grapes and First Must, the Children’s Parade and the Traditional Parade. The highlight of this rich programme is the Grand Wine Parade, when Jumilla becomes wine, and wine becomes Jumilla.
Competitions
Alongside these events, during the ten days of the Wine Harvest Festival, numerous competitions take place. Some of the most notables ones are the National Azaón Throwing Competition, the Monastrell Grape Throwing Competition, the Grape Treading Competition, and the Gachamiga Cooking Competition, among many others.
Without a doubt, the Jumilla Wine Harvest Festival will surprise and delight you. Do not miss the opportunity to visit us.
