Hellín
Hellín is a large and sprawling municipality with origins that date back to the Lower Paleolithic. About 8km south of Hellín lies El Tolmo de Minateda archaeological site, which shows evidence of settlement from the Bronze Age through the Middle Ages.
A key point of interest is the Abrigo Grande de Minateda, one of the most important sites of Levantine rock art. There, you can find cave paintings recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, alongside the town’s famous Tamboradas.
In addition to its rich natural heritage, including the striking Cancarix Volcano, Hellín is home to must-visit museums such as the Picornell Contemporary Art Museum and the Rafael Sánchez Hortelano Holy Week and Tamborada Museum (MUSS).
And of course, Hellín’s excellent gastronomy is a key part of the local culture. Signature dishes include rabbit in patagorrina sauce, broad beans with onions, and sweet bread rolls.
