Descripción
Since Juan Gil Jiménez built the winery in 1916, a single idea has driven the successive generations that have taken charge of it:
To do a good job and proudly bear the name of their brand.
Juan Gil Guerrero, son of the founder, first, and his grandson Juan Gil González, later, improved and consolidated the winery, applying the traditional knowledge of the trade passed down from parents to children. Currently, the fourth generation links tradition with technical revolution. Since the construction of the new winery, many things have changed. The new way of making wine requires technology: rigorous control of the vinification temperature, stainless steel tanks, and excellent hygienic conditions throughout the process ensure quality levels every year. But wine is not only “made” in the winery; the vineyard comes first. Therefore, the winery’s location next to the vineyard allows for exhaustive monitoring of the grape’s evolution, a necessary condition for obtaining a great wine. New times, new wines, a mixture of old vines and new techniques.
Our vineyards are located between 700 and 850 meters above sea level, on sandy and chalky soil, stony on the surface and very poor in nutrients, with a great capacity to retain the little water it receives. It is the kingdom of the Monastrell, a variety native to the region, present exclusively or in a very high percentage in all our wines. Along with the old vines, more than forty years old, and other younger ones of the Monastrell variety, Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot, and Petit Verdot also grow, which adapt well to the conditions of the land and provide intense nuances of spices and fruit.
The harsh conditions imposed by the climate and the terrain mean that the production of the vines is low, with small and highly concentrated fruits, which give rise to wines with great structure, flavorful, intense in color and aromas. They are wines with character, like the land from which they have been uprooted. The recognition of our clients and consumers to our wines ensures that the effort has not been in vain. We are on the right track.
